Austin James

Austin Davis is a passionate percussion instructor who believes music is the ultimate form of self-expression—and drums are at the heart of it all. A graduate of Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Austin has been teaching since high school, coaching marching bands, leading percussion sections, and teaching private lessons ever since.

Specializing in drumset, marching percussion, and rudimental snare drumming, Austin brings a versatile background spanning punk rock, metal, Latin, funk, fusion, jazz, and theater pit work. Whether it’s a high-energy punk groove or the technical finesse of a Latin rhythm, Austin’s goal is to help each student build confidence, independence, and serious skills—without ever losing the fun.

Austin teaches all ages (if you can reach the pedals, you’re ready!) and especially enjoys working with teenagers, bringing humor, challenge, and encouragement into every lesson. His vibe is always relaxed and welcoming, because when students feel at home, they’re free to truly grow.

Outside the studio, you’ll find Austin camping, drinking coffee, playing chess (username: nounverbnoun, come challenge him!), or talking shop with his dad, Derek Davis—his first musical hero and lifelong drumming buddy.

Tommy Patton

With a Bachelor’s in Music from EWU and real-world experience as the drummer in the metal band A Day On Earth, Tommy Patton brings the beat to Bartell Music Academy. He’s been teaching private lessons since 2017, helping percussion students build rock-solid technique while diving into the styles they love—whether that’s jazz, pop, metal, country, or beyond.

Tommy’s teaching style balances discipline and creativity. He helps students develop strong foundations to prevent bad habits while getting them on the drum set and making music right away. He believes learning should be fun, challenging, and rewarding—and nothing beats that “aha” moment when a rhythm finally clicks.

When he’s not drumming, you’ll find him outdoors roasting coffee or foraging for mushrooms with his wife and two kids.

Matthew Diaz

Matthew is a passionate percussion instructor who believes music is for everyone—whether you’re playing it or simply enjoying the experience. With years of professional drumming experience across multiple genres, including touring with a metal band and performing at a local piano bar, Matthew knows how to bring real-world energy and versatility into every lesson.

He teaches all styles—from metal and rock to jazz and country—and is passionate about helping students of all ages discover their own rhythm and musical voice. His teaching style is fun, easygoing, and highly engaging, making sure students feel excited, supported, and confident as they grow.

When he’s not behind a drum set, Matthew loves playing piano, jamming with friends, and keeping music a joyful part of his everyday life. His goal for every student? To share the love of music, have a blast learning, and build skills that will last a lifetime.
